How to add transitions in shotcut11/11/2023 ![]() It is nearly the only one I use for my videos, which I watch on my TV from an ordinary blu-ray player or the USB reader of the TV or a mini-PC.īut Youtube does not seem to support MKV. It is THE universal Open Source container, with more features than mp4. AVC/HEVC+nearly any format for video, ac3/aac/+nearly any format for audio). MKV is a container, not a format: it can use the same codec (eg. PS For example of what I am trying to do, see my youtube channel: But if it can’t do subtitles, I’m going to have to look elsewhere. If so, that’s a shame, because I can see that Shotcut might be a very versatile and useful tool to improve my video skills on. If I left the text at the default size I could not figure out how to tell the programme the start and end positions (or duration) that I wanted the text to appear for. When I attempted to make the text size smaller, the text simply disappeared altogether. I did find the Text Filter - but there were two problems. However, I still can’t figure out if it is possible to use Shotcut to add subtitles. However, a visit to your excellent tutorials resolved many initial issues. ![]() ![]() The download and install were easy, although the unfamiliar environment puzzled the hell out of me. So, I turned to Shotcut after reading a good review of it in an article on Alternatives of WMM. As you guys no doubt know, but I didn’t until yesterday, that is now impossible directly from Microsoft and I don’t know if I trust the free sites to offer a version that won’t be loaded with spyware or worse. Recently, I have had problems with WMM that I thought I could solve by re-installing it. I am a singer songwriter trying to get my songs heard beyond my little town in Catalunya. That’s important to me, because many of my youtube subscribers are not native English speakers and that helps them follow the lyrics. It was simple, but it did most of what I wanted (cut out unwanted intros and outros) and more importantly, allowed me to use the text option as a means to subtitle my songs with the lyrics. So for example doing the mosaic blur on just a certain part of the screen can now be done with just one video track by first picking “Mask: Simple Shape”, then picking the Mosaic filter and lastly applying the “Mask: Apply” filter at the end.I have been a fairly happy user of Windows Movier Maker for a few years. The “Mask: Apply” filter is to do certain masking effects with just one video track instead of having to use two video tracks like before. Then to actually make the transition you keyframe the Threshold setting. Where it says “File” you pick the transition you want whether it be from one of the stock transitions or a custom one. Then you apply the “Mask: From File” filter to the clip/image that is on top. In order to make a transition with the new Mask filters you need to have one clip or image on one video track and the second clip or image on another video track on top of it. Do you need to apply keyframes to the mask filter to make it work? And is it important not to have anything on V1? Also do you need to apply the mask:from file AND the mask:Apply to make it work? Thanks, just tried to re-create this effect, but I’m still struggling a bit. ![]() PS Just to add, should anyone be wondering how it was done, that the title (with the yellow lines) at the start of the video was also designed by me, from scratch, using html/Webvfx and inserting it into the overlay HTML filter. You can speed up/slow down the transition by dragging its edges, and/or you can select “invert wipe” to make the transition run backwards, and/or you can adjust the softness. Ta- dah, your transition should now appear.
